For example, red and white grapes contain high levels or resveratrol in its skin. A study on experimental rats confirmed that increased intake of resveratrol increases insulin sensitivity and hence, increase in blood sugar level is less likely.

Experimental models of rats also concluded that naringin, a substance present in high concentration of grapes, has the same mechanism of action as sitaglipitin, a drug that lowers blood sugar. Apples, prunes, peaches and apricots also inhibit glucose uptake thanks to cholorogenic acid. This substance can potentially improve the beneficial effects of coffee consumption.

Furthermore, fruit juice consumption poses greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes and lesser beneficial effects. These maybe due to increased glycemic load per serving and the juicing process itself. In addition, differences in viscosity are very likely to contribute to in the development of type 2 diabetes. Fluids (fruit juice) tend to pass to the digestive system rapidly and so, upon uptake in blood, it causes faster elevation of serum glucose compare to solids (whole fruit).

We have come to realization that not all fruits or their mode of preparation have equal benefits of helping us stay away from type 2 diabetes, although we can use this knowledge obtained to improve health outcomes. 2 Drinking Raw Milk
Dr. Kevin Woodward discusses in his book The Devil in the Milk that the wholesome milk we think we are drinking to help our bones and body receive the essential calcium and nutrients it needs can actually be detrimental to our own health. In fact, he further states that drinking regular milk can trigger such diseases as cancer and diabetes. While milk may seem like your only choice, there are plenty of raw milk choices you can try and are equally as nourishing and delicious such as almond and oat milk.

3 Fig Leaves
Many people don’t’ realize the importance of fig leaves not only in treating diabetes but other diseases such as high blood pressure, bronchitis, genital warts, liver cirrhosis, skin problems, and ulcers. When a diabetic follows a diet making a fig leaf extract, they require the use of fewer insulin shots. It is best when taken first thing in the morning with breakfast. You can also boil the fig leaves in freshly filtered water and drink it as a tea.

4 Black Seed
Black seed is known as a wonder herb treating everything from acne to pancreatic cancer. Doctors are raving about the miraculous effects of this natural remedy. Diabetics can try this simple solution. Take one-half cup of black seeds that have been heated and half a cup of watercress seeds if you don’t have these, you may also use mustard seeds and a ¼ cup of pomegranate peel. Place all the ingredients in your blender and pulse it till it’s a fine powder. After this add 1/8 cup of fumitory. Take this one hour before you eat each day. Try this for a month and see how this will help curtail your sugars.

5 Fenugreek
Try taking 5 to 30 grams of Fenugreek each day before, every meal up to 90 grams. Do not go over 100 grams, or you will find that you have quite an upset stomach. Also, the herb has some side effects such as Diarrhea and gas. You can’t take the herb at the same time as your other medications. It is advised that you take your medications one to two hours before taking the herb. Best practice would be to take them at least 2 hours before taking the herb. If you notice any of the following symptoms: hard time breathing, tightness in your chest, rash, swollen and itchy skin stop taking it right away. Pregnant women want to consult their doctor before starting this sort of regime.

6 Cinnamon
Cinnamon has been known for a long time as an advocate in the fight for treating diabetes. Back in 2003 a study performed by Khan and Associates included 60 people with one-third of the group given a placebo and the rest including cinnamon as part of their diet. Of those who added cinnamon as part of their food glucose levels went down by 18% and LDL cholesterol and triglycerides showed significant results as well. Hence, the cinnamon craze in treating diabetes, and other conditions spread. Cinnamon is known to imitate insulin therefore diabetics will not need as much of it when this is incorporated into their daily diet. It is advised to include ½ teaspoon a day. Try it out and see how much better you will feel.

7 Grape Seed Extract
Grape seed extract has received many positive results across various studies performed in the treatment of diabetes. It has been documented that it helps protect the liver cells from hyperglycemic conditions. Grape seeds do come in 50 to 100 mg. capsules. It is advised that you take 50 mg a day per 50 lbs. of weight not to exceed 300 mg a day. Most who take 3 capsules a day find this potent extract helps significantly with diabetic symptoms.

8 Olive Oil
There has been recent research provided that a diet that incorporates olive oil can often prevent diabetes. This also helps in controlling or preventing other illnesses such as cardiovascular and atherosclerosis. The Mediterranean diet, which includes olive oil that is monounsaturated, has also been documented to treat the condition. Before going to bed each night try drinking ¼ cup of olive oil. Try not to drink more than this as one full cup of olive oil contains 2000 calories.

9 Bitter Melon
The bitter melon has insulin-like properties which when taken daily can help lower insulin levels. You may juice the bitter fruit, ground the seeds to be eaten or make tea a from it.

10 Vitamin C
Researchers have discovered that taking 100 to 660 mg of Vitamin C can help regulate your sugar levels within in as little as one month.

Stay Active with Diabetes
Having type 2 diabetes gives you another reason to exercise beyond slimming down and getting in shape. Regular physical activity helps you manage your blood sugar, weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol. And that reduces your risk for diabetes-related problems with your heart, eyes, kidneys, and nerves. Here are some of the best exercises to try.

Get Ready, Get Set
If you have type 2 diabetes, work with your doctor to develop an exercise plan that’s safe for you. Be sure to include aerobic activities that make you breathe harder and your heart beat faster. The latest diabetes guidelines recommend aiming for 150 minutes of aerobic activity per week, spread out over several days.

Walk This Way
Walking is an excellent aerobic activity. It’s easy to do, and you don’t need any gear other than a pair of walking shoes. Aim for a moderate pace — able to talk, but breathing too hard to sing. Keep it interesting by walking with a friend or switching up your route.

Be a Pedal Pusher
Other aerobic activities include cycling, hiking, swimming, climbing stairs, rowing, tennis, and cardio classes. Varying your workouts can help you stay motivated. Flex Your Muscles

If You Have High Blood Pressure

For example, people with high blood pressure may need to forego very strenuous activities and heavy weight lifting. But moderate aerobic and strength exercises are usually fine.

If You Have Diabetic Foot Disease
If you have nerve damage in your feet, avoid high-impact moves, such as running or jumping. However, moderate, low-impact activities — such as walking, cycling, and swimming — are generally OK. If you have a foot sore or injury, chair exercise is one way to stay active until the problem heals.

If You Have Diabetic Eye Disease
If you have diabetic retinopathy — damage to the retina of your eye — avoid very strenuous workouts, heavy weight lifting, and high-impact activities. Also, skip moves that put you in a head-down position, such as some yoga poses. But many moderate, low-impact activities are fine, with your doctor’s approval.
